Lightning is a major threat to remote data collection systems. Lightning & Surge Protection safeguards hydro-met instruments from direct and nearby lightning strikes through built-in hardware that grounds hydro-met instruments and dissipates sporadic voltage surges. While direct contact between lightning and hydro-met equipment is rare, even nearby strikes can disable electrical instruments through energy radiation. In either instance, Lightning & Surge Protection modules shield equipment from shortages through grounded standoff insulators, which automatically reset themselves after the electrical event has subsided.
